Colour, Fabrics and Flavours: Rediscovering Joy in Singapore

So much colour and vibrancy today. My creative heart was honestly jumping for joy. After spending so much time exploring alone, it felt really special to share the adventure with someone. There’s something about good company that softens the edges of a city and makes everything feel a little more alive.

Gardens on the Bay

We started the day at the incredible Gardens on the Bay. To be completely honest, I’ve been hesitant to go. I thought it would feel too man-made, too structured, too “designed” to really touch that part of me that craves wild nature. But wow… I was wrong.

The moment we walked in, it felt like being wrapped in a world of colour and imagination. The sheer scale of it is unbelievable. Giant glass domes filled with lush greenery, waterfalls, sculptures, orchids, and plants that look like they’ve been plucked straight out of a dream. Every corner felt like a visual feast.

There’s a magic in seeing how creativity and nature can merge when done with intention. It might not be a natural forest, but it still held a certain kind of beauty that completely warmed my heart and revved up my excitable inner child.

A Detour to Little India

Eventually, our tummies started loudly rumbling, reminding us of their existence, so off we went to Little India. I love this neighbourhood. It’s such a burst of colour, scent, sound, and the easy kind of chaos that makes you smile.

We tucked into a palak paneer and butter chicken, and it was everything I needed. Warm, comforting, simple, and delicious. What made it even more special was the spontaneous chatter between tables and an animated waiter. It’s a part of home I miss, and so it felt good to just natter away with strangers about nothing really.

The Fabric Haven I Didn’t Expect

Our final stop of the day stopped me in my tracks. I literally couldn’t walk past the window without feeling completely pulled in by the fabrics on display. The entire hotel and restaurant were covered in exquisite textiles, rich colours, layered patterns, textures everywhere. It was heaven for my creative heart.

So of course, we had to go in for a drink. I think my enthusiasm for the beauty of the decor was overwhelming for the staff and so to meet me at where my excitement was at, they squeezed us into the fully booked restaurant and gave us the menus with a sigh of relief. Sadly, my mocktail tasted a bit like pond water, so I swapped it out for a masala chai. But honestly, with all those gorgeous fabrics spilling across every wall, curtain, cushion, and corner, I barely noticed. I felt like I was sitting inside a piece of art.

A Heart-Filling Day

It ended up being such a fabulous day. Full, colourful, inspiring. One of those days where your heart feels a little lighter, your creativity wakes up again, and you remember how good it feels to be out in the world.

After a stretch of moving through life solo, it was beautiful to share it all with someone. A gentle reminder that connection comes in many forms, and joy often appears in the simplest of moments, walking, eating, noticing, laughing, and exploring.

Days like these remind me why I love documenting life. There’s beauty everywhere. You just have to look up.
